Why I created O'Kassava: to introduce cassava differently in Canada

Cassava: More Than Just a Root
My name is Amelan. And behind every O’Kassava sachet, there’s a story — a story of roots, passion, and mission.
Cassava has always been a part of my life. It’s the food of large family gatherings, childhood memories in Ivory Coast, and recipes passed down from mother to daughter. For me, it’s not just an ingredient. It’s a legacy.
But when I arrived in Quebec, I realized how little it was still known. Misunderstood. Underestimated.
So I had an idea: what if I could introduce it — with a modern, healthy, and accessible touch?
Why O’Kassava?
I founded O’Kassava with a simple dream: to make cassava a star in our kitchens. Not just for the African diaspora, but for everyone.
Because cassava is:
- Naturally gluten-free
- Rich in fiber and energy
- Light, digestible, and good for your gut
- And most importantly: delicious and incredibly versatile
I wanted to create authentic yet practical products — that celebrate Ivorian richness while adapting to our modern lives.
A Mission That Goes Further
O’Kassava is much more than a food brand. It’s a project with concrete values:
- Sustainability — our packaging and practices respect the environment. For the tabbouleh, we even use vegetables from unsold and surplus produce from local farms and stores to fight waste.
- Support for women — we collaborate directly with women's collectives in Ivory Coast who cultivate and process cassava. Every purchase supports their autonomy.
- Two economies, one product — our products are made in Ivory Coast and Canada. A bridge between two continents, two cultures, two communities.
- Accessibility — whether you’re gluten intolerant, curious about new flavors, or just in a hurry in the evening: O’Kassava is for you.
What I Want You to Feel
I want each bite to tell you a story. For you to discover new flavors, but also a new way of consuming — more conscious, more joyful, more connected.
And I want to show you that you can do business differently. With heart. With purpose. Without ever forgetting where you come from.
Thank you for being here
If you’ve tasted an O’Kassava product, if you’ve talked about it, or if you’re simply reading these lines — thank you.
You are part of a community that believes food can bring people together, educate, and transform the world.
One bite at a time.
— Amelan, founder of O’Kassava
